Design of Transmitter and Receiver to Reduce PAPR and ISI in Multi-Carrier OFDM System: A Review

Himanshu Monga

Abstract

In wireless communication, concept of the parallel transmission of symbols is used to achieve high throughput and better transmission quality. Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) is one of the techniques for parallel transmission and it converts frequency selective fading channel into N flat fading channels, where N is the number of sub-carriers. orthogonality is maintained by keeping carrier spacing multiple of 1/Ts by using Fourier transform methods, where Ts is the symbol duration. This system gained popularity after the application of the Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) and its inverse (IFFT) to modulate signal in many subcarriers. Therefore, it has been used in many wireless systems and adopted by the various standards. In this paper, we will discuss the overview of OFDM system which consist basics of OFDM system model techniques, concepts of orthogonality, principles of OFDM system and OFDM system design. It also describes inter-symbol interference problem, high peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) problem in orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) systems and generate a taxonomy of the available solutions to mitigate the problem.
