An Ellipse-based Turnstile Antenna for Operations at 250 MHz

Adithya Vikram Sakthivel

Abstract

This paper proposes, designs, and analyses a novel turnstile antenna for UHF radio frequency
operations. The proposed antenna was constructed using a pair of elliptical dipoles with a major axis
width of 12 cm and a minor axis width of 7 cm for a resonant frequency of 250 MHz and tested for a
bandwidth of 200 MHz and 300 MHz. Steel-1010 with a thickness of 2mm was used in the construction
of this antenna design. Realization, simulations, and analyses were conducted using with CST
Microwave Studio (an electromagnetic simulation software developed by Simulia, a sub-division of
Dassault Systèmes). It should be noted that this ellipse-based turnstile antenna design has shown
acceptable values for the desired operational frequency range.
