IrrigaNet: Bridging IoT and Farming for Realtime Smart Irrigation Control

Raghunath Maji, Koushik Ghosh

Abstract

In recent times, IoT has emerged as a crucial technology in the 21st century, seamlessly integrating into various facets of our daily lives. Its rapid expansion is evident across sectors such as healthcare, finance, and agriculture, permeating every aspect of our reality. Green IoT is a very hot topic in the present scenario. In our research paper we are using IoT to implement a smart irrigation system. The dam is used to store and supply water to the agricultural fields as per our requirement. This system has some disadvantages, like water carries various particles along with its flow, particles are deposited at the level below the dam and sometime block the normal flow of water. As a result, after some time the embankment fills up with soil and has to be excavated, which is very expensive. The water stored in dam carries a variety of minerals and fertilizers that are very important for agriculture. But when the water is in the dam (Water reservoir), all the minerals and fertilizers settle down at the bottom of the dam. So for good crop we need extra fertilizer in agriculture and we all know the price of fertilizer in recent times so it is very expensive. To avoid such problems we have proposed a model that will supply water to agricultural fields with minerals and the dam will not be filled with particles carried by the water. Our model is fully automated, where data is collected by various types of sensors and sent to the cloud server and action is taken based on this data. This process requires less human intervention so there is less chance of error.
