Design and Implementation of an Autonomous Firefighting Robot with wireless control

ELIZABETH JOSEPH, OLAWORE J. OLADAYO

Abstract

The chaotic and traumatic situations Fire disaster has put people through cannot be overemphasized. There is every need to mitigate this because this sort of disaster has become a common threat to peoples’ lives and properties most especially when it is not properly handled at the early stage. This work presents an autonomous firefighting robot with wireless control which will discover the presence of fire and puts it off as soon as it does using water. This robot is controlled using a smart phone via Bluetooth. It uses an Arduino Atmega328p microcontroller board with other components interfaced to it. Serial communication was achieved between the microcontroller and the smart phone by attaching a Bluetooth module to the Arduino microcontroller. Three flame sensors are also interfaced to the microcontroller and they are responsible for the detection of fire. A pump attached to the microcontroller starts as soon as fire is detected and it sprays water on the fire in different direction with the aid of a servo motor which rotates 180 degrees. Robot is controlled after the fire has been extinguished.
