POWER PLANT MODEL VALIDATION FOR IMPROVING SYSTEM RELIABILITY AND SECURITY

K Sravanthi, Dr. K Durga Syam Prasad

Abstract

Model that represents virtually all practical systems. Power system models are used to demonstrate the system
performance studies such as generation, load growth estimation, operating limits calculation and (SIPS) system integrity
protective schemes performance computations and all this study depends upon an exact mathematical model representation of the
trans- mission system, generation system and load model. Comparison of performance data of the power system model with the
actual system measured data called power system model validation. These Model are needed to validate regularly but practically
this does not happen. So that the studies derived from these models are not accurate if any model does not show a reasonable
observed phenomenon on the power system.
Present work is to investigate the importance of power plant model validation and to examine the state of model validation
implementation and to propose the improvements. Model validation is a crucial process for maintain system reliability and system
security. One of the basic approaches to the model validation is system wide simulation where the active and reactive powers, or
voltage magnitude and frequencies can be compared with the measured data and error can be optimized with sum squared error.
This procedure is to outlook as top-down proceed towards verification and comparisons with data measured indicates the quality
of overall model and investigation of the dissimilarity between measured data and simulation data demonstrate which component
in subsystem models need to be revalidate.
