HVDC Transmission Line Transient Power Protection: A Review

Akshay Goraniya, Prakruti Shah

Abstract

HVDC transmission line is preferred more than HVAC transmission line due to its leading advantages over EHVAC system so HVDC transmission line protection is one of the major concerns in the current power system. The transients are generated in HVDC system during the occurrence of faults. This paper gives a briefing about the transient energy protection scheme for protection of HVDC line. Here, nature of HVDC line during internal and external fault is contemplated. During each fault, the relation between various parameters and various transmission lines are analyzed. The transient energy can be acquired by measuring the voltage and current at the two terminals of the line. The development of the transient energy protective principle is based on internal and external fault conditions. For DC transmission line the test system is considered as a distributed parameter. Comprehensively test study presents that the performance of transient energy protection scheme is an inspiring. Two main factors, which affect the performance of protection which includes fault resistance and transmission distance are also discussed.
