Abstract

Roads make a significant contribution to economic growth, enhancement and bring essential social benefits. There are different types of road in country to fulfill the needs of human access. Roads are damaged due to constantly used by vehicles and environmental factors. Many times, road maintenance is not possible to monitor every place or because of disregard. Due to this, it causes the generation of pits which leads to unwanted traffic, vehicle damage and the small scales accidents. This paper explains the detection of the pit using pi camera attached to pit detected vehicles. Image processing techniques are used for detection of pits which gives the information to the municipal office on time, hence keeping manual labor to the minimum. This system has been implemented using the OpenCV library. Image processing techniques such as gray scaling, median blur filter, canny edge filter and morphological operations are used for effectively pit detection.
