Abstract

The data management of a manufacturing process involving both man and machines becomes essential for tracking their efficiency and effectiveness. As now days most of the conventional machines are replaced by the CNC machines, the machine utilization has to be more efficient for the investment. This leads to the smart connection of the machines for data tapping with the help of Internet of Things (IoT). One of the applications of the IoT is Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT). The machines are connected through a cyber-physical system for data management in terms of spindle run time, machine conditions etc.
The concept of IIoT also known as Industry 4.0 is used to inter connect the machines by fabricating the cyber physical system for data tapping and transmission to storage. The data tapped from the machine is converted to a useful data for interpretation for future endeavors .The Cyber Physical Systems are of two types based on the working of the data transmission device. Ethernet and Non – Ethernet support based Total Production Monitoring (TPM) device. A comparative study on the working of the data transmission device is carried out in this paper. The requirements and the working of the Ethernet and non-Ethernet based data transmission device is analyzed.

Keywords – Internet of Things (IoT), Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT), Digital Input / Output Module, GPRS gateway.
