Abstract

This article offers a review of remote sensing and geographic information system in crime analysis and monitoring. Crime exists in every society in respective of its level of development. It fuels corruption and destabilizes the development of any society. The use of geographic information system and remote sensing will provide the bases for security agencies to combat criminality and banditry. The purpose of the paper is to examine the role of remote sensing and geographic information system in crime analysis and monitoring with a view to creating awareness of these technologies in the fight against crime. The study adopted descriptive method and basically used only secondary data including police official documents to enhance the quality of the work. The paper identified time-space-trend and variation aspect of crime as well as the environmental and locational factor of police outposts as gaps that need further exploration for the overall benefit of mankind.
