Proactive and Preventive Personal Health Monitoring and Management U sing Wearables and Internet of Things

Palak Sutaria, Omprakash Rajankar

Abstract

The evolution of the embedded systems technology has enabled the design of efficient and reliable wearables that adapt to the different usage conditions and are rugged enough to handle rigors of daily life. This review paper explores the recent developments in the wearables technology to help monitor personal health parameters. Wearables working as an IoT ecosystem can help provide monitoring on both regular human activity in support of a healthy lifestyle as well as help monitor and manage chronic health conditions and provide real-time and accurate ongoing reporting to patients as well as their clinical caretakers. Finally, the paper touches upon opportunities brought about by the extensive health data being gathered by the IoT ecosystem. AI can be leveraged to provide preventive and predictive insights to help avoid or manage the potential medical crisis.
