Abstract

ABSTRACT

In deregulated electricity market, Congestion Management (CM) is an important technical challenging issue due to working constraints. Flexible AC Transmission System (information) device may be a preference to reduce the transmission line congestion and help to utilize the existing grid structure by improving the line transfer capability. In this paper, the CM problem is solved by optimally locating the Thyristor Controlled Series Compensator (TCSC) in the transmission line using Improved Firefly Algorithm (IFA). The optimal location of TCSC is identified based on real power performance index and reduction of total system reactive power loss methods. IFA is used to minimize the cost of production, and cost of TCSC. The effectiveness of the proposed method has been tested on IEEE 14 bus system and the single line outage analysis is also carried out.
