Abstract

This paper is a result of comparative study for seeking the better application of DC–DC converters in renewable energy systems when a transformer is employed in it. It is seen experimentally that by employing transformer with the converter, its output can be made ripple free to a great extent and the efficiency of the system is improved. It was also seen that, by using high-frequency switching devices like MOSFETs and IGBTs, the system becomes more reliable and efficient. Hence it can be inferred that DC–DC converter with transformer gives better performance than without transformer configuration. Keywords: comparative analysis, DC–DC converter, efficiency, renewable energy, transformer
