Abstract

Dust and dirt particles accumulating on the PV panel decreases the solar energy reaching the cell and thereby reducing the overall efficiency of cell. Hence, cleaning of PV panel is one of the areas of discussion in the engineering sector of solar power generation. In this study, an optimal solution for solar panel cleaning is reviewed. A portable robotic cleaning device is developed and versatile rail system which can travel the entire length of the panel. An Arduino based microcontroller is used for the robotic control purpose. Initial testing of the robot has provided favorable results and hence the system is viable. In conclusion, it is found that this robotic cleaning method is practical and can help in improving the overall PV panel efficiency.
