Abstract

ABSTRACT
An electric power system consists of generators, transformers, transmission lines etc. Most of the faults which occur in the transmission lines can cause flow of heavy current associated with the short circuits due to which there are increased chances of fire, damage to the equipment, and imbalance of the power supply. In order to avoid such accident to the maximum extent, maintenance or checking of the transmission lines are generally carried out on a frequent basis. This runs to improved manpower required. In an electric power system, a fault is occur due to any abnormal flow of electric current. In three phase systems, a fault may involve in one or more phases and ground, or may occur only between phases. In a “ground fault” or “earth fault”, current flows into the earth. The transmission lines are in most cases uncovered within the air to the harsh surroundings of nature which produces diverse forms of disasters. Thundering, rain, lightning phenomena, flashover, winter ice, fog, fog stick on the insulator, and pollutants cause poor contact insulators and transmitters. On this assignment, we propose an easy automated transmission line (3 phase) fault detector using a comparator.
