Gain Enhancement of a Filtenna Using Defected Ground Structures Technique

MANEESHA DWIVEDI

Abstract

This paper presents a compact filtenna with enhanced gain by improving the structural shape of filtenna using defected ground structure(DGS) technique. A filtenna is an integration of a filter and an antenna into a one device. This combination leads to the reduction in the system size, weight cost and complexities. The proposed filtenna consists of a hairpin bandpass filter and a hexagonal-shaped microstrip patch antenna. The filtenna without DGS has a peak gain of 5.588 dB with operating frequency of 2.45GHz. The simulated and measured results have demonstrated that using DGS technique the peak gain was improved and found to be 7.923 dB at 2.45 GHz frequency. The proposed filtenna design is fabricated and tested with good agreement between simulated and measured results. All the simulation results have been obtained by using Computer Simulation Technology-Microwave (CST-MW) software.
