A Wideband 3dB Hybrid Coupler for Operations in the C-band

Adithya Vikram Sakthivel, Allan Kevin, Anuj Sunil, Joseph John, S Raghavan

Abstract

This study proposes and describes a novel wideband 3 dB directional coupler operating in the C-band (4–8 GHz). The proposed design was developed using microstrip technology with alumina being used as the dielectric, with a bandwidth of approximately 7 GHz (2–9 GHz), making it in theory, suitable for applications in the X-band (8–12 GHz) and L-band (1–2 GHz) as well. The increase in operational bandwidth was obtained by utilizing two methods, namely, broadband matching and open circuited coupled lines.
