Transformer oil Temperature Measurement using Tungsten Filament as Sensor

Abstract


Temperature is an important parameter for condition assessment of transformer oil as well as transformer. Increase of temperature of transformer oil in a transformer beyond certain limit indicates the possibility of internal disorder of the transformer. Most of the temperature measuring instrumentation system consist conventional electric temperature sensor having some limitations, particularly under harsh environment. Tungsten filament as sensor, in this regards, is an ideal choice having many advantages. In this work a tungsten filament of an incandescent bulb is used as sensor for temperature measurement of transformer oil. The change of resistance and current with respect to temperature are measured and simulated.
