Speed Control Implementation of an Induction Motor Driven by a Matrix Converter

kotb basem, E.E. EL-Kholy

Abstract

Abstract— This paper introduces a solution for the drawbacks of using the cycloconverter in controlling the speed of the induction motor (IM). Matrix Converter (MC) is the solution of this drawback as it has a wide range of output frequency, so it used not only in low speed application but also in high speed application. V/F is used to control the speed of IM as it is simple and easy to implement. Indirect space vector modulation is used to control the switches of MC. MC is used rather than AC-DC-AC converter as it eliminates the bulky capacitors. Moreover, MC can control the phase angle between input voltage and input current and unity input displacement factor can be achieved. Finally, simulation results for different operating points are displayed which are consistent with the expected results.
