Risk Assessment of Flood for Various Spatial and Temporal Mining Scales Using Flood Vulnerability Index [FVI] – A Case Study of Madhubani Kosi River Flood Affected District in North Bihar, India

SANDEEP KUMAR KAUTISH, Prince Divakar Saxena

Abstract

Several countries experience fatalities, injuries, property damage, economic and social disruption resulting from natural disasters. The natural hazards kill thousands of people and destroy billions of dollars’ worth habitat and property each year. The rapid growth of the world’s population has escalated both the frequency and severity of the natural disasters. Flood disaster has a special place in natural hazards. Floods are the costliest types of natural hazards in the world and constitute 31% of the economic losses resulting from natural catastrophes.[1]
