A Novel Intelligent Technique to Minimize the Losses in the Radial Distribution

P. Sundararaman, T. Menakadevi, C. Kumar

Abstract

A novel method proposed to minimize the real power losses for the Reconfigurable Radial Distribution System (RRDS) using a meta heuristic Differential Evolution (DE) technique. It has been derived by using branch exchange method through forward backward sweep algorithm for finding the New VSI (Voltage Stability Indicator) and other important electrical parameters of all the buses. It is the most powerful optimization tool to handle the nonlinear programming problems. To reduce the power losses, the heuristic search is required to change the sectionalized and tie switches positions dynamically without requiring any additional parameters. The different constraints are involved to estimate the objective function in which both sectionalized and tie switches are operated in the control manner. Hence, the total real power losses are minimized. The effectiveness of the proposed method is tested and compared with ACB, GE, RGA and B&B on IEEE 33 buses with the real time 62 buses of South Indian distribution system using MATLAB 14 software.
